02/13/11 Convention Hall

I just can’t get enough of Asbury Park. Everywhere you go, it’s the early 1900’s. Convention Hall was built in 1930. In 1934, the luxury liner Morro Castle ran aground adjacent to the Convention Hall. The ship was carrying wealthy passengers from Havava to New York. There are many old photos of the disaster just off the boardwalk in Asbury Park.

Asbury Park is one great place to photograph. Friday, along with Gallery 13 resident James Mignogna, I checked out the Silver Ball, a pinball museum on the boardwalk. James is shooting a series on the place. Stay tuned for more info on his project and check out his great street images. The place is quite interesting with tons of old pinball machines. The owners are eager to tell you all the history behind the machines and have some great stories. Later, I stopped in Ocean Grove to photograph the Casino building. Wesley Lake, which separates Asbury from Ocean Grove is still completely frozen.

Since I’m now part of The Gallery 13 in Asbury Park, I’m trying to build a portfolio with some local images.  As I explore Asbury, I am growing to love this area. There is so much history behind this town. A great place to roam around for a day. The boardwalk area is rebuilding at a fast pace. Plenty of restaurants, antique shops, galleries, and other great places.

01/27/11 Cardinals in Snow

Cardinals are very shy birds.  It’s tough to get decent shots.  But, in the snow they become a little braver. That’s because with the ground cover, food is scarce. They are always beautiful birds, but especially in the snow. Click on the image to see full size.

Asbury Park is such a cool place to photograph.  The area seems to be coming back strong. Many restaurants, shops, and galleries are popping up.  I walked the boardwalk and it was bitter cold!

The Barnegat Bay in Seaside Park still remains frozen.  The sunset and the ice creates some dramatic colors.
