02/15/13 Resting Coaster

Posted: February 18, 2013 in Uncategorized

Well, after some “recon” I was able to get on the beach in Seaside on Friday. I was hoping to stay until after dark for some night shots, but the police were not big fans of star trails. It was such a gorgeous, calm night. I felt kind of sad as I realized this majestic coaster will not be resting here much longer. While it waits patiently, my obsession with it continues.

01/31/13 Spring Lake

The boardwalk in Spring Lake is completely gone as a result of Hurricane Sandy.  The cement bases still remain and are a surreal sight, almost post apocalyptic.

Seaside Park is open to the public again.  I went over to the Barnegat Bay and found my two favorite docks. One survived Hurricane Sandy just fine, the other was not so lucky.

I’ve become fascinated with the Jet Star coaster sitting in the ocean. The first time I saw it through the darkness is embedded in my mind.

01/01/13 Seaside Heights II

Posted: January 1, 2013 in Uncategorized

I stopped by Seaside Heights this afternoon. The town is open, but the beach is off limits. Police at the end of every street. Some businesses are open, but the area is still a mess. Seaside Park and Island Beach State Park are still closed.

12/17/12 Seaside Heights

I was able to get in Seaside Heights for a short time early Monday morning.  The area is opening up to the public, but the beach and boardwalk are off limits. Jo HendleyLily Pannella (friends from The Gallery 13) and myself made it up to the beach before daylight. Eventually, we were asked to leave and were escorted to the bridge.

12/14/12 Geminid Meteor Shower

Posted: December 17, 2012 in Uncategorized

I spent the night in Spring Lake to watch the Geminid meteor shower. It was an amazing show and I witnessed a crazy number of meteors. I took about 700 shots over the entire evening, but only caught two meteors in my frame. But, it was still a great night I will never forget.
