The “Super Moon” made it’s appearance tonight. It’s not a good night for the stars, but excellent for some landscape. All these shots were taken during the night and are totally lit by the Super Moon. It was almost like shooting in daylight.
This is the start of week 2 at Acadia National Park in Maine. While attempting a star trail on Otter Cliffs, a couple came walking out of the dark. After a short conversation, they agreed to be part of some photographs. I found out weeks later, they were from New Jersey. The sunsets were taken on Cadillac Mountain. At Thunder Hole, there is usually one guy who has to climb the rocks or take photos precariously near the crashing surf. That day was no exception.
Seal Harbor is just down the road from our rental cottage on Mount Desert Island near Acadia National Park, Me.. Most mornings it’s draped in fog. Little Long Pond is such a quiet location that is missed by most visitors. It’s one of my favorite spots to photograph.
I went to Bass Lighthouse on Night 2 in Acadia National Park, Maine. The sky was getting light and the Milky Way was already fading by 3 AM due to the early sun rise.
We have been up at Acadia National Park in Maine for the past two weeks. I have so many images to post, they’ll be coming in rapid fire. These were taken on the first night here. The moon was almost dark, so I headed out as soon as it was dark.
I had the star trail shot in mind for a long time. Finally, I got the chance to spend 90 minutes on the beach at Cape May. It’s tough to get a decent photo of the lighthouse at night because there are so many floodlights and tons of light pollution. After trying several angles, I found it best shooting from the beach. It was a beautiful calm night, except for the plane traffic. There was a plane in 200 of the 270 exposures. It’s a tedious process to remove them before processing the star trail. The center star is Polaris, the North Star. I was pretty excited that night as you can see in the middle photo.
Arrived at the East Point Lighthouse in Heislerville, NJ just after midnight with my good friend, Jack Fusco (Jack Fusco Photography). The Cameloopardalids meteor shower was pretty much a bust, but I did manage to catch a couple of meteors just before daylight. Over 400 exposures and only two meteors, a far cry from the predictions. Still a great night with Jack, one of the top night skies photographers.
I spent the night shooting the night skies down at Batsto Village in Wharton State Forrest, NJ with my good friend Jack Fusco (Jack Fusco Photography). This was my first time at Batsto during the night. This village was so creepy in the dark. I swear I could see the shadows of people looking out the windows. Doubt I could shoot this place alone.
